The Academy of Endoscopy is addressing this challenge by pioneering a new era of endoscopy training. Our trainers are experts not only in endoscopy but also in the science of teaching and learning. We leverage the latest research in education and psychology to create highly effective training programs.

  1. Empower Trainers: Our trainers have undergone rigorous training under the mentorship of renowned experts. Nobel Prize winner and Yidan Award laureate Professor Carl Wieman has guided us in applying the principles of Expert Performance to endoscopy, while Professor William McGaghie, a pioneer in Simulation-Based Mastery Learning (SBML), has shared his invaluable expertise in curriculum design and SBML implementation. Inspired by their mentorship, many of our members have pursued advanced degrees in education to further enhance their teaching capabilities.

  2. Expert-Led Curriculum: Our curriculum is meticulously designed and continuously refined to ensure that trainees acquire the highest and standardized level of competence needed to excel in their field.

  3. Advanced Simulation: We harness the power of simulation technology by introducing Simulation-Based Mastery Learning and incorporating Distance Simulation learning into our curriculum. This provides immersive and realistic training experiences, allowing trainees to master complex procedures in a safe and controlled environment.

  4. Developing Innovative Technology: We are at the forefront of developing synthetic models and simulators specifically designed for mastering therapeutic endoscopy. These cutting-edge tools will provide trainees with unparalleled opportunities to practice and refine their skills.

  5. Global Collaboration: We are building a global network of endoscopy trainers to share best practices and resources, fostering a collaborative community dedicated to improving patient outcomes.

Our Solution: A Science-Driven Approach

Despite its critical role in diagnosing and treating digestive diseases, endoscopy training often falls short of global standards. A lack of standardized training, limited access to advanced simulation technology, and insufficient resources hinder the development of skilled endoscopists, particularly in underserved regions.

The Endoscopy Training Crisis

The Academy of Endoscopy is a global community of dedicated professionals committed to revolutionizing endoscopy training and patient care. Established in 2019, our mission is to ensure that every patient, regardless of location, has access to the highest quality endoscopic care by elevating endoscopy training through the application of expertise principles and educational science.

Transforming Endoscopy Care: A Global Imperative

Who We Are

The Bali Endoscopy Simulation Training (BEST) Consensus, set to take place during the Asia Pacific Digestive Week on November 21, 2024, in Bali, Indonesia, represents our latest initiative to globalize endoscopy training grounded in scientific principles.

Join us in creating a future where everyone has access to world-class endoscopic care.

Bali Endoscopy Simulation Training (BEST) Consensus

To enhance access to high-quality endoscopic care, worldwide by advancing endoscopy training and techniques through the application of the principles of expertise and educational science.

Mission

To be a collaborative group of committed leaders in gastrointestinal endoscopy, dedicated to transforming the teaching of endoscopy knowledge and technical skills into an efficient and effective form that is firmly grounded in scientific principles and the expert performance approach.

Vision and Mission

AOE has completed and published several randomized controlled trials.

1.

Thirty members completed a certification course in Simulation Based Mastery Learning and curriculum designs from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

2.

AOE has supported the doctoral degree of Dr. Hasan Maulahela (Jakarta, Indonesia).

3.

AOE has supported the master's degrees of Dr. Andrew Ong (Singapore), Tiffany Nguyen-Vu (USA), Dr. Tonya Kaltenbach (USA), and Prof. Roy Soetikno (USA).

4.

AOE was invited to organize endoscopy conferences and workshops for national and regional gastroenterology societies (e.g., Asian Pacific Digestive Week, Singapore GI Hep, EndoscopyCon Philippines).

5.

Our curriculum is adapted as a country-wide mandatory program for Gastroenterology Fellowship trainees in the Philippines and Thailand.
